AI processing and backup

Where does your
writing go?

Your journal archive is stored locally on your iPhone. When you use AI, the context needed for your request follows the engine you choose.

On-device AI

iPhone → local model → reply on your iPhone

The downloaded model processes your writing on the device. It needs a model download and device support; availability and performance vary.

Your own API key

iPhone → chosen AI provider → reply on your iPhone

The journal or chat context needed for your request goes to the provider you select, such as OpenAI, Claude, Gemini or DeepSeek. Its policies, terms and usage charges apply. This is remote processing.

Everglow Cloud

iPhone → Everglow’s hosted service → OpenAI → reply

Cloud is optional hosted AI with a usage allowance. Request context leaves your device and passes through Everglow’s service to OpenAI for processing. Read the privacy policy for the published details; third-party handling also depends on the provider’s policy.

Writing without AI

You can keep a journal without asking an AI to process it. Check the selected engine in Settings before using AI features.

Backup is a separate choice

Optional iCloud backup stores a snapshot in your private CloudKit database. A snapshot backup is different from continuous sync. Review backup and restore settings when moving to a new device.

Keep exports private

Markdown exports are readable and unencrypted. Anyone with access to the exported file can read its contents. Store it somewhere private.

This page explains the product’s processing choices. Read the full privacy policy and terms before choosing a remote service.
